Review - Destination Daytona
by Nancy O'Berry
Publisher: Red Rose Publishing
Rating: You Gotta Read
"Janet Duplain wasn't sure what to expect when she decided to make the trek down to Florida and the Daytona 500. She'd surprised her husband Ed with the trip only he died unexpectedly and now this is the last thing she can do to honor his memory.
Steven Brock loves NASCAR so when he rescues a woman outside the gates and finds she knows nothing about racing he plans to enlighten her. What he doesn't expect is the sparks to fly between them. Her auburn hair and deep green eyes are like a beacon calling him in. Only Janet is still carrying the torch for her dead husband. Can Steven turn on the charm and woo her convincing fair Janet that love is always better the second time around?
Have you ever found an author you just can't get enough of their work. Well, I have and her name is Nancy O'Berry.
This is one of the best love at first sight stories I have read in quite a while. What I love about this story is the age of the characters. They are older and more mature, yet they act like teenagers. Which put a smile on my face from beginning to end. Janet, the heroine, is taking charge of her life and not expecting what comes her way. Steve, the hero, is a man who is not only courteous and polite but will sweep you off your feet. The only problem I had with this story is it ended to quickly.
Anyone looking for a well written and highly entertaining story needs to look no further. This is what you are looking for. I highly recommend not just this story but all of Nancy O'Berry's work. You will not be disappointed.

Deb's Review: Destination Daytona is a fast paced whirlwind romance that captured my heart; not everyone gets a second chance at love. The characters, whether primary or secondary, are a delight in this book. I do feel that this story was a bit rushed and I would have liked to get to know the characters with a little more depth. That is not saying that this was not a sweet read.
I felt for Janet, her loss and her fear to build herself and her life up again. She had a very strong inner beauty. Steven shocked me a bit. I was looking for a younger man in this book, but was happy to find an older gentleman to capture Janet's attention.
Janet and Steven are as sweet as their passions. Even though there were no hard core sexual encounters, their passion was still known.
Nancy O'Berry touches on a few sensitive subjects in this book: mature adults falling in love, having adult children, and that moment when the new love meets the grown children.
Destination Daytona was a sweet read for this reviewer. One that had me wanting more. If you like short reads with heart, then this book is for you.
Nancy O'Berry is as sweet as her stories. I for one truly enjoy reading her work.

Janet Duplain finds herself widowed at the young age of 43. Having previously bought good tickets to a NASCAR race as a gift for her husband she now has to make a decision. Does she stay home or be daring and go to the race alone? She decides to go.
While making her way through the onslaught of people in the superspeedway to reach her seats, she's suddenly knocked down by one of a throng of teens. Making his way through the crowd at the same time is Steven Brock, a Good Samaritan who reaches down to help Mrs. Duplain up off the floor. Janet discovers some of the contents of her purse have spilled out including her sunglasses. Steve, being the consummate gentleman, leads her to a vendor to purchase new ones. But something happens during their brief encounter, they find themselves attracted to each other.
Steve pays for the sunglasses and also buys her a NASCAR hat. To thank him for his kindness Janet invites him to sit in the seat next to her. The conversation flows and ultimately Steve and Janet find themselves having a good time, enjoying each other's company.
This is a love at first sight romance that is sweet. I liked both the heroine and the hero. Janet is a bit vulnerable but knows how to stand up to Steve's son who thinks that all women are gold diggers. I also liked that the characters were middle-aged, Steve in his mid 50s and Janet in her early 40s. They both exuded a nice sexuality and the author set up the love scenes in a very pleasing way.
There are no great twists and turns or big surprises in this story. It's just a nice love story about people who find love later in life. I think you'll find it enjoyable too.

Janet Duplain has surprised her husband with Daytona 500 tickets for his birthday. But things do not go as planned, Ed has suddenly passed away, leaving Janet all alone. Now she is making the trip to Florida in honor of his memory against her family's wishes, by herself. Steve Brock is a big fan of Nascar and has come to watch the Daytona 500. Only he finds things heating up between them and Janet is still clinging to her husband's memory. Can Steve convince Janet it's okay to take a leap of faith?
Nancy O'Berry has done a wonderful job of creating realistic characters with charm. Nancy starts out with a great begining that has a tragedy of its own. Then O'Berry brings it full circle with all the emotions inbetween. I found myself caught up in the story line all the way to the end. Very nicely done Nancy, looking forward to seeing more of your work in the future.
